What are you longing for?

Recently during prayer, I heard the Holy Spirit whisper "What are you longing for?". I stopped for a moment opened my eyes and gave that question some serious attention.

The dialogue continued as thoughts crashed into my mind.

Understanding what you long for is essential. The desires of your heart steer your course in daily life. If you are longing for worldly treasures, you will filter your life through wants, not what I know you need. Seek me first, or clarity will not be. Desires left unchecked taint my voice and accuse my will of manifesting in the form of self-gratification. My children are seeking the things of the world, and many no longer recognize my voice. Your longings will direct your path if you do not fill your empty spots with my presence and my word.

Evil desires birthed from misplaced longings are dangerous. The voice of the Holy Spirit was relentless in his instruction as he searched my heart. He was calling me and the bride to check longings and determine which path desires are leading us to walk.

James 1:14 says, ” but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.”

It is clear the temptation comes from within us.

1 Corinthians 10:13 states, "The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."

The temptation will come. Therefore we must use awareness as a weapon. The desires of our heart if not aligned with the will of God lead us into habitual sin. And over time, chained to culture not free in Christ.

Paul is warning and preparing us for the inevitable battle. He reminds us the temptations are everywhere and no different than those living in the world. However, you and I have access to someone who knows exactly what we need. We serve a faithful God, preparing us and providing the power to overcome every temptation as we surrender and follow his lead. Let me stress this truth; there is a provision of strength in God's presence, through the Holy Spirit within empowering us to turn away, endure temptation, as we walk in victory.

Satan does not want you and I to live life founded in this truth. He understands the transformation that flows from knowing the word and doing what it says. God's word is active, and when woven into daily life, it transforms us continuously to be more like Christ.

There is radical restoration, freedom from the old man and resurrection power at the foot of the cross. Even our longings must bow and align. The presence of God leaves nothing untouched. So we must ask the question...

What are we longing for?

Selfish longings transform into treasures rooted in the heart, and when left unchecked they taint the voice of God and lead us down paths of destruction. Desires misaligned, produce earthly, sensual fruit instead of a renewed mind.

If you are reading this and feel hopeless because of habitual sin, I challenge you to kneel, repent, open your word and allow God to break the chain that is holding you down. There is no power in hell strong enough to push back the word of God actively released in your daily life. God is faithful!! This is our battle cry!

"Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be." Matthew 6:21

Start each day declaring the word of the Lord over your life and make it a practice to turn away from sin, submit to God and then rejoice as the devil must flee. When the temptation comes, speak the truth out loud found in God's word and forward focus. God never allows a temptation to be stronger than his provision to turn away. But it is our choice to choose Christ or compromise to follow culture.

Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:3-4

Trust God, do good, and cultivate faithfulness. Delighting in the Lord positions our heart to desire him more and more.

Let TRUTH be your focus as your faithful God fights for you today! He wants to align your longings with his heart. O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1
