Is spiritual warfare a waste of time?
Spiritual Warfare is one of those subjects people either agree with or ignore. I have heard followers of Christ on many occasions refer to fighting the enemy as a past time or a waste of energy. Regardless of your revelation one thing we all agree upon, everyone is fighting some kind of battle. What a person chooses to call it, does not make it go away.
“Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have confessed so well before many witnesses” (1 Timothy 6:12).
In the midst of holding onto the eternal everyone is found combating one similar conflict and we casually call it choice. From the garden with Adam and Even until now, the created has struggled to stay on the pathway paved by God. Even though we are provided everything we need to imitate Christ, we sometimes choose to follow Satan’s voice (2 Peter 1:3). Then and now this is one of the greatest dangers awaiting all those accepting Christ. Why? Before we can choose the voice of God we have to be equipped to recognize it. Like earthly relationships we grow closer as we spend time together. Knowing which voice we hear requires an intentional protected, pursuit of God's presence and His word. These building blocks are firmly planted in life during protected prayer.
The war between our carnal mind and eternal perspective manifests from within. First battles fought are initiated when we begin to throw out the ways of the world and choose Christ. Satan is strategic with this battle, placing temptation at every turn. He whispers soothing words of compromise, easing the hurt. Many turn to satan and accept the brick and place it under their feet. These lies become the ground they walk upon. The enemy sits and watches as God’s voice is ignored and culture dictates what is acceptable, even inside the church.
When we do not recognize this tactic, rebuke it and turn away, our life becomes a conduet of darkness. Jesus said it is not what goes into the body that defiles but what is manifested on the outside (Matt. 15:11). Words from our mouth reveal the voice receiving our attention. How we interact with those around us is a witness for who we follow. God is not seeking perfection but He is calling us to a faithful, obedient, pursuit! Only He has the power to transform us!
The battle raging in the heavens appearing on earth is seeking a way to separate us from the Father’s voice, and it starts with a choice. Jesus was tempted in the desert with choices and this is a real and present threat to us (Matt. 4:1-11). “Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away” (James 1:4). Know your enemy and run away from his destructive voice.
Spiritual Warfare is simplistic in its power to drag us away from the Father’s voice. When we nurture human desires over the presence of God we do not become familiar with the Father's voice in daily life. Replacing His wisdom, we begin to live the lies of the world. Decisions are made based on how the outcome makes us feel instead of whether it aligns with God’s will. Daily we compromise and allow other things to take the place designed for God. Losing our awareness of what is happening the enemy wins the war. Then if we do not embrace repentance and turn back to truth the lie becomes part of our spiritual DNA.
The greatest battle raging within the body of Christ today is our habitual sin of submitting to and following the wrong voice. The ugly truth is many are choosing comfort over the call of God. Someone said if they accepted Christ there was nothing else. The bar was set and expectations clear, no more active participation needed. Have fun, store up your treasures; feed self, because God loves you. The blood Jesus shed would pick up all the slack for willful sin. Half truths equal one lie. Culturally sound but bibilical lacking they lead us away from the voice of God and into the arms of the enemy. I do not control grace, this is God's job but I can tell you advancing the kingdom requires active participation and partnership with His voice. He is the leader and we follow His command.
Romans 6:1-2 “Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?”
Eroding the call to purity, one after the other they blindly teach what they have been taught. I can see the lie in the spirit. Satan whispers "God would never make you uncomfortable, He loves you". God is love and His hands are built to shape and mold. God is kindness, compassion, righteous judge and He disciplines His beloved. He is preparing us for every good work not the works of darkness. Satan has deceived the church. Sitting comfortably, many are helping advance the accuser's kingdom on earth. He doesn’t have to exert energy to fight the masses, they have caved to choice.
The truth is once we accept Christ, we partner with God, empowered by Holy Spirit as our Savior intercedes. We are co-laborers with God (1 Cor. 3:9). Our Father has been partnering with His children since the beginning of time. He speaks to us and works through us to tell the world how much He loves. His power manifests in our life to convince the world of His mighty deeds (Mark 16:17)! Our life is an offering poured out to bring Him glory and pointing others to the cross!
We are called to go and make disciples of all men (Matt 28:19). Carefully determining what pleases the Lord and walking in obedience to His voice (Eph 5:10). Jesus said not everyone appearing to do the work of the Lord really knows Him (Matt 7:22-23). We must fight against the lies perpetuating complacency in the body of Christ. Protect time in prayer and soak up the presence of God. Then as His power manifests in life it convinces those around us of His marvelous grace!
No matter the level of battle, it is won through hearing and responding to God’s voice. We are all one choice away every moment of the day.
"If you love me, obey my commandments” (John 14:15).
Protect time in prayer and study of the word. Lean into God and embrace His strength for every weakness. You and I can do this because we walk in the power of the cross! Everyone aligns with the enemy or walks in response to the Father’s voice, and spiritual warfare is lost or won by choice. I choose to align with God’s word and follow His voice! With confidence we can declare, no weapon formed against us will prosper because we are dead to sin and alive in Christ!
"Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour."
(1 Peter 5:8)
Surrender to the secret place, follow Christ and walk in response to the Father's voice!
"I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will." (John 5:30)
